In Green class we predicted that Lima beans were not living things, even though our knowledge and understanding of the plant cycle informed us that they contain seeds. To be sure we designed an experiment to test which growing conditions (if any),would result in germination of our beans.
We enclosed our beans in controlled test environments and provided them with moisture, and sunlight, whilst keeping them at a warm temperature. The beans were provided with varying moisture to test for optimal growth conditions, should germination occur.
We found that too much moisture results in saturation and the beans can not germinate. However all other beans did germinate, with the beans given the least water taking the longest to shoot. Therefore Lima beans and all seeds do have the potential to become living things!
